How to Set the Appropriate Installation Position and Height for the License Plate Recognition Camera (LPR Camera)
1. Select the Installation Location and Height
The camera is in the safety island in front of the main engine of the gate, close to the gate but not affecting the take-off and landing of the gate, not extending out of the safety island but retracting no more than 10 cm. The effective capture distance is 2-12 meters, and the optimal capture distance is 3-5 meters. As shown in Figure 1:
If the angle between the front of the vehicle and the lane line at the capture line is large, the camera can be placed behind the gate to reduce the angle and make the front of the vehicle in the image straight.
When the capture distance is 3-4 meters, the vertical height of the camera relative to the lane ground at the capture position is preferably 1.3-1.5 meters;
When the capture distance is 4-5 meters, the vertical height of the camera relative to the lane ground at the capture position is preferably 1.5-1.7 meters. The farther the capture distance, the higher the installation height.
How to Choose a Suitable External Fill Light for License Plate Recognition Camera?
2.Installing an External Fill Light
Correctly selecting and installing an external LED fill light can achieve better imaging quality at night and improve recognition effect.
When taking snapshots at 3-5 meters, it is recommended to use a fill light with a power of 8W and a lamp cup angle of 60°; if taking snapshots at 5-8 meters, it is recommended to use a fill light with a power of 12W and a lamp cup angle of 45°.
The vertical height of the external fill light relative to the lane ground at the snapshot position is 0.6-0.8 meters, and 0.7 meters is recommended. The fill light can be directly facing the license plate.
The adjustment of the fill light should be carried out at night, because the degree of reflection of different license plates is different, and the effects of various vehicles need to be observed and considered.
